The Brief
Our clients, Dave & Pam, owned one of Barnes’ ‘Boot houses’ — a property they’d hoped to sell so they could move to the south coast. But the house had been deemed un-mortgageable, meaning a straightforward sale wasn’t possible. They needed a way to turn an unsellable property into a sound financial asset.
BACKGROUND
The Challenge
The ‘Boot houses’ in Barnes were built quickly by the Henry Boot Company to meet housing demand in the inter-war years. Structural tests carried out in the 1980s found these properties were no longer structurally sound, and many are now being rebuilt to meet current safety standards. For Dave & Pam, this meant their home carried a structural problem that no buyer’s mortgage lender would accept — leaving them stuck.

OUR APPROACH
Bradley’s Solution
Rather than attempt a partial repair, Dave & Pam took the courageous decision to demolish the existing house entirely and instruct us to build an even better one in its place, using traditional building methods to ensure the new property met current structural and safety standards.

The Results
Dave & Pam have since been able to sell their newly-rebuilt property at a huge profit — something that was impossible with the original un-mortgageable house. That sale has enabled them to begin the next chapter of their lives on the south coast, with a comfortable nest egg to retire on.
